Amen. The distance somebody can travel is largely variable depending on three factors: training, planning and motivation. The travel rates usually cited are based on moving armies around and such - which is neccessarily slow because of the logistics involved, and the fact that you can only go as fast as the least motivated element (unless you're willing to attrit when moving).

Keep in mind that people regularly run 26 mile marathons in 4 hours (some do it in just over 2 hours), and that there are clubs that require you to go 100 miles in 24 hours to get in. Even with a pack, people have traversed the Appalacian Trail - more than 2000 miles of mountainous terrain - in only a couple of months. That's more than 30 miles a day.

Yes, all of these people are exceptional. But then, so are the Heroes in play. With magic aid one would think that rates like this might be possible under the right circumstances. But they all depend on the character being willing to take the pain (and potential injury) involved in going such long distances. Keep in mind things like personality traits, and relationships motivating the character when considering whether or not they have the stamina to go that far.

Even an untrained individual without a great travel plan can travel a great distance in a short time if they have enough motivation. They're just more likely to end up hurt when they're done. I suggest two contests for quick or forced marches. The first is to see whether the character arrives on schedule, motivation being primary. The second is to see whether or not their body holds out given the time/distance combination attempted.
