I've been updating my Telmori presentation for The Coming Storm,
which I hope to get the final MS of into Rick's hands soon. This is
my current take on it, which of course means nothing at this stage :-)
Special Telmori Magic—Shapechange
The Old Ones, descendants of those who served the Bright Empire, lose
control over the animal half of their spirit and become werewolves
from dusk to dawn each Wild Day. The Old Ones Shapechange ability
transforms man into a wolf. In wolf form, the character has the
abilities of a Great Wolf as per the "Creatures" chapter of
Heroquest. In wolf form, instinct takes control, and reason dims. A
Telmori's Shapechange ability is the measure of their ability to use
reason in wolf form. A Telmori may use human abilities to augment
wolf abilities, and vice-versa, but at -10. Hero points can be spent
on human or wolf abilities). In addition all shapechanged Telmori can
use their Shapechange ability to resist physical attacks, which
simply slide off their fur; this ability only works against mundane
attacks and has no effect against enchanted or augmented weapons,
runic metals, feats, spirits, or spells. The famous Wolf-Warriors of
the Telmori come from those who have mastered their Shapechange
ability.
The deal here is that everything in HQ is an ability including such
things as Resist Unenchanted Weapons. Originally I had this as a
seperate ability, but of late I have been tempted to move it all in
to the one Shapechange ability. Comments welcome.
What happens when a warrior without a magic weapon runs a Telmori
through? He finds a weak spot not covered with skin like mouth, eyes,
a bare patch without fur etc. or deals enough blunt trauma his foes
internal organs. Exactly what happens in fiction when our hero
confronts a monster with seemingly impenetrable defences.
