They are still in the contest against one another, the course doesn't earn
points toward victory unless you want that to represent the chance that one
or both is unable to finish the race or (on a Complete Defeat) dies in a
fiery crash. All the course does is provide the opposition rolls and the
chance for players to come up with clever augments to help them through the
tough parts. You could even have Kris and Lilly roll against one another,
and model the course as places in which the player may choose to roll for
augments a la *HeroQuest 1e*, trading a risk for a potential big pay-off.
