there's always been a problem with finding the right rune and making sure
you have the right font installed
the ideal thing would be to be able to say to your computer "insert the
>your rune name here< rune, please" and it would do so - regardless of what
fonts you have installed
I wonder if a the answer would be a simply-designed .Net app, specified as
follows:
*A labour-saving version of the printed list of runes vs alphabet, grouped
by font name.*
Main functionality:
- contains a registry of rune font files, perhaps even storing those
files internally
- keeps a database of rune names cross-referenced with the rune
characters in the font files
- allows searching of for runes by name / look
- allows grouping of runes by categories/subcategories
- allows the user to add any selected rune to the clipboard for
subsequent pasting into documents - if the font is not already installed,
install it
Nice-to-have:
- can analyse a word document and display all the rune fonts used therein
(InDesign prolly already can provide this info - Rick?)
- keeps a database of your documents and what rune fonts you used
- allows the user to package up a group of thusly-used rune fonts for
email/whatever
- drag a rune image into a document from a slim, vertically-arranged
toolbar
I'm pretty sure I could write a VBA program for Word that would find all
characters that are set to any non-installed fonts and maybe even install
the missing ones. If that's possible then it could be a feature of the app
described above.
