One film which might help portray something of the lifestyle of Odaylan hunters is Akira Kurosawa's Dersu Uzala.

The plot is about the friendship between a Russian soldier and a Mongolian (?) man who lives alone in the wilderness. Although set well into the age of the gun, the film creates a vivid picture of the loneliness and insignificance of humans in a vast and harsh wilderness. Dersu, the wilderness man, is so different in his expressions and thought processes than the city soldier that he is almost considered deranged.

Not an easy movie - long, slow and very sentimental - but one that will stay with you nevertheless.
