Heortling boardgames

The 'What My father told me' entry for Orlanthi on the Issaries website, lists Sword and Shields as the canonical Orlanthi boardgame. I'm not sure if this has a histroical antecedent that I am unaware of, but I always imagine it to be like Viking boardgames, such as Hnefatafl:
