It says that all trollkin births are trollkin, and that many are stillborn. Many can be as high as 30% without necessarily meaning that they can't breed rather fast. The trollkin term of pregnancy is fairly short, I seem to recall.
I have to agree that they don't quite breed like rabbits. Trollkin breed fast only when compared to dark trolls, and a big factor in that is the litters of trollkin that the dark trolls give birth to.
