In a society where "violence is always an option", I would have
thought that meetings were always highly ritualised so as to
determine the intent of those one meets. And getting the backing of
the clan wyter in such rituals is the kind of insurance that farmers
(i.e. the bulk of Heortling society) tend to insist on.
