OK, I read page 13 of the Second Age Mongoose book. Good book... I'm glad I bought it.

On one hand, I'm disappointed (and at this stage want to make it perfectly clear that I'm not ragging on Greg here) - I had always taken the GLS to be one of those things that the knowing of gave the knower a fractionally deeper insight into Glorantha - like the Arkat/Gbaji thing.   ...and assumed that's why Greg wasn't telling. And that's why I've been trying to work it out for 20 years. :-)

But it's not - it's just the name of a mystical "Kung Fu" technique they had. It's the name of one of their techniques/weapons, the existence and basic nature of Greg has never kept a secret at all. Which is confusing, and disappointing on one hand.

Having pondered it for a couple of days, there is the other hand - it's actually liberating, because I spent 20 years on-and-off trying to work it out, and doing so led me to a deeper personal understanding of both Glorantha and, by reflection, my own life (I appreciate it's perhaps a bit "forward" to mention the latter in open forum - it appears to be something people are only usually inclined to confess in personal conversation, but Glorantha has given me a way of understanding and enriching my life, for which I am profoundly thankful). The actual "Secret" is pretty meaningless, but the attempt do fathom it has been transformative, and finally getting there has made this value, which I was always aware of, even more clear.

Furthermore, it's liberating in that I've come up with over a dozen theories over the years as to the nature of the GLS, and a couple of them are, I think, pretty cool. It's been great to throw a couple at Greg whenever I see him (usually every few years) and get them shot down in flames, because some of them were complete rubbish and it's encouraged me to go back to the drawing board, to ponder more the nature of Glorantha, and thus Myth and Consciousness. :-)

Sorry for the rambling - I just wanted to throw down my thoughts for posterity. I'm going to write up my current GLS theory and its implications in another post, hopefully today, just in case anyone likes it and wants to find that their Glorantha varies in a similar way. :-)

Cheers,
