The fyrd structure of heortlings is of course (in part) borrowed from the leišangr of the vikings. This has made me wonder if the coastal Heortlanders have (or rather had, before the closing) a tradition of building and crewing longboats for war? I seem to recall something about the black longboats of OOO's trolls.
