I'd make the cliffs of the Shadow plateau very steep, practically vertical, on the basis that the obsidian of the plateau is harder than the surrounding earth and would erode with a sharper edge. The effects of the damming of the Creek Stream River down that valley are pretty interesting to consider but I don't really have any geography knowledge about blocked rivers.
