Smelted bauxite, but this process requires immense amounts of electricity. Until WWII, most of the aluminum came from cryolite and other minerals. Heck, there was an occupation of Greenland during that war to secure the world's only major supply of the mineral.

Bauxite looks like mud because, it pretty much IS mud. Cryolite looks much cooler, as it were. However, this is Glorantha and mineralogy doesn't work the same way.
