Yes -- but most of North America is geographically unlike Dragon Pass, which is more like Europe in terms of its sudden geographic variations.
Rivers crossing broad plaines are generally more difficult to cross than those crossing more varied terrain, although major rivers like the Rhine or the Oslir basically impose themselves upon any terrain factors lesser than a mountain, and will always be very hard to cross. :-)
Minor rivers in hilly or mountainous country typically provide multiple crossing points, rather than forcing everyone to use the same one. Barring exceptions. :-)
