Agreed. If you want good examples of this, read a good annotated copy of the "Travels of Marco Polo" or Herodotus' "History". Multiple versions of a story - even contradictory versions - certainly exist in Glorantha.
And the explanation you gave has more than a few likely kernels of Truth in it.
