> I've got lots of maps of Kethaela and Heortland from the Dawn through the Third Age. None before the Third Age show Casino Town. But pretty much all of them show Karse (although the pre-Third Age maps show Karse on the other side of the river).

just to make this clear: I did not doubt the existence of Karse during that time... the only uncertain time is between the Closing and the blocking of the Creekstream River by the Great Serpent.

What bugs me a bit are a few descriptions in Dragon Pass - Land of Thunder.

"The newer city was settled in EWF times, and it thrived for centuries. Disaster struck when Dragon Pass became impassable and the Closing of the oceans dried up all trade. All that remained was a fishing community huddled amid the decaying grandeur of their forbears."

around 700, the city sat on the left bank, i.e. in the west - still the old city.

Why should it have been moved prior to the disasters mentioned in the description?

Postponing the move to sometime around 1380 or 1400 and having the Esvulari lords have a ritual marriage to move the city would make a better story. (Or, to be honest, would let me keep the story I have been using for years...)

> One thing to keep in mind, cities come and go in Glorantha. Some cities can claim continuous occupation from before the Dawn, but not many. The world changes and is not timeless (despite what some Dara Happans and mystics claim).

Not just cities... the lower Marzeel Valley is one of the geologically and hydrologically most active histories in the recent 500 years.

I'm a bit unhappy about the Backmarsh history too. The story about the sorcerers of Jisteel sounds a bit like a repeat of Delecti's stunt in the Upland Marsh. Ok, it might also have served as his inspiration. However, the water level in that valley was higher prior to the damming of the Creekstream, as described in the Suchara Vale description. It takes a whole lot of beavers to regulate the water to remain a swamp, unless we assume there was a change from a fen to a high bog in the 200 years before the Lead Hills were formed.

I have no idea whether I will ever reach a publishable form with my Karse project, but I'd like to keep it in line with canon.

Which reminds me to quote Peter Metcalfe: http://glorantha.wikia.com/wiki/Eonistaran

>>>
Sartar:Kingdom of Heroes reworked this material and presented in a form independent of the Composite History. Any hopes of an authoritative resolution of the confusion was cruelly dashed with the following contribution:

"Markalor was the son of Jotisan of Karse, a merchant who had business between Boldhome and Karse before he was killed. Markalor was a son of Eonistaran the Sage, who had been an advisor to King Saronil of Sartar."

Right now I'm inclined to have both a Markalor Eonistaransson and a Markalor Jotisansson.
