However, there is more to it than just doing activities that subcult is fond of (remember Finovan is just a specialized subcult of Orlanth). Most of that 30% is spent in worship of Orlanth and the rest of the pantheon. Participating in sacrifices, communal feasts, and other actions that are MORE pleasing to the gods than just raiding and stealing stuff.

When you are outlawed from your clan, you lose your community. All those ceremonies, festivals, and sacrifices that were so pleasing to the gods - you can't participate in anymore. Until you find a NEW community, it is going to be very hard to keep the gods happy - particularly whatever god you are dedicated to.

Perhaps you attach yourself to a tribal or city temple. The priests there might take you in and you can serve your gods as part of that community.

Perhaps you attach yourself to wealthy stranger, like a chief or king. Such lords always need loyal men. He might take you in and again you can serve your gods as part of that community.

But wandering around through the wilderness with just a companion or two? That's going to be real difficult to feed yourself with, let alone keep the gods happy and connected to you.
