It may be worth playing King of Dragon Pass- the iphone app. It will give you a great intro to orlanthi culture, bickering, thieving, raiding, that sort of thing. Sartar is an ok place to start, cos you can be insular in the nature of the clan- suspicious of clans around you because they are not quite us.
Balazar is also a good place to start, players can start as primitive tribesmen who know very little about the outside world.
If you find the crimson glow of the Empire moving towards you it is either caused by:-
The Empire has expanded and soon their will be amenities such as bath houses and everyone will smell less , or
A giant chaotic crimson bat demon ( in the service of said Lunar Empire) that eats souls to survive is coming your way, and you would be well advised to move on

> What I know: Dragons are big as mountains; There's a giant dragon skull that you can travel under; dragons dream other dragons that can kill you; There's a hole in the middle of the ocean; An animal herd herds dumb humans; there's a "big spike" on the map(no idea what that is); This Lunar empire(Romans?) empire is visible as a reddish haze.
