A thought-provoking idea. Being initiated into Humakt mirrors Humakt leaving the Storm Tribe, and means that the Humakti is no longer counted as family in the same way as before.

However does a Heortling who undergoes this rite actually lose their Storm Rune (presumably replacing it with Death?), or is this so hard-wired into men born into Heortling society that the analogy with Humakt leaving the Storm Tribe does not go quite that far?

If the ritual is powerful enough to break the tie with the Storm rune in imitation of Humakt's own renunciation of the Storm rune, then maybe it is possible that a Chaotic convert to Humakt could lose his Chaos rune too. If not, then logically it should be a much longer process.

Also I like the idea from one old fanzine that the initiation rite grants immunity from the previous cult's spritis of retribution by virtue of Humakt's power as the god of severings. Which incidentally is also a power which mirrors one of the effects of Nysalorean illumination.

This isn't evidence that Humakt was illuminated, but it might be evidence that could help others to reach that conclusion (if they knew about Nysalorean Illumination and spirits of retribution, and few Gloranthans do)

Could Humakt's power of severing past relationships work on the relationship to chaos? There may be some Humakti who believe that it is that powerful. Even if it is impossible to sever a relationship to chaos, mere impossibility is not the always barrier that it may seem to be.

Phil.
