I guess what is selling right now are so called European style boardgames, easy to learn yet quite complex when it comes to tactics. Or theme games saddling on widely known publications, usually movie flicks, but also best-selling books.

Right now I am toying with a variant of Settlers of Catan for a Dragon Pass resettlement game. Strictly fan-based, of course...

Features are rune priests gaining magic from certain territory, which is then used to increase cattle herds or advancing the clans to tribes, cities etc. Cattle can be raided, too...

This is all first concept stage, but if people are interested, I'll share the ideas.

And no, it won't be that easy to learn... but then most people do know how to play Settlers of Catan, and can move on from there.
