Maran Gor was once just Maran, as kind and lovely as her sister, Ernalda, though with no lovers or husbands. Come the Darkness, their paths diverge dramatically. Maran chooses to become Maran Gor, fierce and active. She stays awake while her sister Ernalda sleeps.
I would therefore change the initiation ritual to re-enact this choice. Ernaldan initiates eventually must succumb to sleep, when all their other resources are exhausted. Their initiation has been described elsewhere. Maran Gor chooses from among the girls who don't sleep. Vinga chooses some of the others, and likewise Babeester Gor (who was born during Ernalda's Sleep). When threatened by a Chaos thing in the Godtime, those drawn to Maran Gor probably cause the earth to swallow it up.
If the two girls are undergoing initiation at the same time, then one must sleep, and the other must protect her sister.
