Yes, of course.
If the players are unwilling to accept it, then just have a big fight
and get it over with.
As they die they can have a vision of how their actions brought about
the turning of hte kingdom to be evil, etc.

Several of the big battles can be reached this way. The climactic Iron
War battle, the Nights of HOrror, etc.
