to your caste, so someone in the wizard caste who is rubbish at magic cannot do anything else. Similarly, someone born to be a knight who cannot fight, hates the sight of blood and is allergic to horses needs to be put in a position where he can do no harm. I'm sure there are special posts created for exactly those kinds of people. Nobles who can't lead, however, are fine exactly where they are.

But this suggests that some of the traditions are not mythically true. How can someone be born who is not a fit for their caste if the shape of the world set down at the start of time is true (for a given tradition, sect, cult or church).

Where one school of thought has traction over another is in the "problem" that some tasks and skills overlap between two or more castes. Is a stablehand a commoner or a warrior (likely in-training)? What about a horse-breeder? Is someone that designs and builds siege weapons a Noble, a Warrior or a is it just a specialization of other Commoner woodcrafts?

While the Brithini Wizard who starved to death after his cook died is amusing (in a dark sort of way) in the tough world of Glorantha there are quite a few things that every individual is personally responsible for in order to survive. Personal hygiene, food preparation, the basic ability to defend yourself from beasts and fellow man with aggression and a handful of other things are required of everyone in order to survive from initiation to cremation.

(On the other hand, I'm sure there are bathroom-humor stories among the Loskalmi about Wizards that constantly reek because they can't wipe their own bum.)

Likely, the biggest problem for the "truth" of the Rokari doctrine (and some others) is the coming Hero Wars, which is generating a change of times. Such as heroic individuals that step outside and beyond the boundaries of what is commonly understood to be true.

At least, that's how I see it.
