My question was meant to be about counting, not about money.

So I'll assume Issaries Traders (and probably other traders) can count, and do some sums. I'll also assume Lhankor My priests and possibly initiates can count and do sums. Some priests will be able to do more advanced math.

How about our regular Heortling farmer? Can he count his animals? Can he count all the animals in the Stead? Given the number of animals from several steads, can be add them up? When said farmer is searching for his lost sheep in the woods and spots a large party of broos down a gully, can he report back an actual number to his chief?

Regarding 1000 coins; When an urban tax collector, who collects taxes in coin, finds himself and his guards bound and locked in his own strong room, some Heortling (ex) farmers might find themselves in a position of possessing more coins than they have ever seen before.
