A RW way of looking at it would be if the Yelmite was one of the Hashemite tribe of Arabs, who have been Muslims since the ex-ward of one of them started talking about an angel revealing the hidden Word of God to him, while the Yelmalians are, at least to those Yelmics, like a member of The Nation Of Islam (aka, the Black Muslims), founded in the early 20th century.  Remember, the Yelmics can trace their ancestries back before Shargash destroyed the world to remake it, some before the death of Murharzarm, whereas the cult of Yelmalio (as Daysenarus in 1st Age, then Tharkantus in the Imperial Age) goes back about a millennium, at most.

Harvar Ironfist is therefore, in this analogy, like Malcolm X, who converted from Nation of Islam to "proper" Islam after going on Hadj.  Except that Ironfist wasn't assassinated by his old co-religionists afterwards.

BTW, there were a lot of "Yelmalio" temples in the 2nd Age, and I expect that many of them would echo the 3rd Age Yelmics in asking "Ernalda WHO???".  I would be surprised if the Balazar Yelmalio Temple knew anything of any "Ernalda" for example.  SOME Earth goddess/spirit who slept around, sure, but not the Orlanthi goddess, except via excessive God Learnering.
