        I concur. I'm not even sure they pretend they are hyperconservative. Their cosmology is an eternal progression, and while they retain things they believe are worthwhile from the oldest times, they also institute changes frequently. For example, every single Emperor is supposed to instigate some major alteration in the environment, culture, or religion. Reactionary the Kralori are not.

        Their reputation for being hidebound is based on two things: the Kralori do NOT like adopting things from other nations. NIH is the rule. Foreigners are sinful, corrupt, lax-minded, and do not understand How Things Work. Adapting ideas from _them_ would be like eating dead animals instead of rice. Blech. The other feature is that the Kralori don't enjoy change for its own sake, but only as an improvement. Hence, a new thing is distrusted for a while until it proves its worth -- the Kralori would rather reject ten good things than adopt one bad one.
