Male Earth dieties -

Lodril, anyone? Or Turos? Gerendetho? (Ok - they're all masks of ol' big and blocky, but...)
Peloria is chock fill of 'em.

And isn't Pamalt an earth diety of sorts?

Orlanthi Greeting -

I'd like to add that the Greeting is not just used to identify a person - - it also declares their intent. If you have come to steal - er - raid cattle, you leave out the "I will not rob you" part. If you have come to kill someone, you often leave it out completely, or insert your intent to kill in it.

Therefore, Bubba the Hiording Hunter can wander onto our Varmandi lands one day, give the Greeting, and we will give him hospitality. But if he returns next week and neglects the formal "I mean you no harm" part, we will assume he has a hostile intent and attack him. Obviously, the detailed formal greeting is dispensed with between close kin and close friends.

It's all part of living in a society with no central authority. You simply cannot assume that just because you know who someone is, they mean you no harm.

Pam
