The art of force helps the caster to overpower the taget while boosting
helps the spell to break through the target's magical defenses.
If both target and caster have a POW of 16, countermagic 5 will block a
palsy intensity 5 force 5 and a palsy intensity 5 boosted with 5 MP will
break through the countermagic but the caster will have only 50% chance
of affecting the target.
Since boosting is not an art, a caster may put as many MP as he wants to
boost his spell. For example a caster may cast palsy intensity 5 force 5
boosted by 5 MP. It will break the countermagic 5 and give the caster a
75% chance of palsying the target.

I would have thought that the priest of Furalor did not need a torch to
transport the fire from the pyre to the boy's body. He could have used
his bare hands instead.
