Yah, even "simple" darkness might work very differently, and elemental darkness would be much more resilient to the intrusion of light. Which raises the question of whether torches, laterns, etc. are as effective in Darkseason, or are noticeably dimmer, weaker, etc. (And vice versa for Fireseason). Since elemental darkness is _not_ the absence of light but a force in and of itself, this would get pretty odd. But much more fun.

I'd guess that nights are part of the elmental darkness, but very very weak (and that days are elemental light, but very very weak).

It's the "physical presence" of Xentha, who She Who Shadows Yelm, and in my book she's basically "enveloping" Glorantha in herself (instead of puking out light, like Yelmy).

I don't know a canonical reason why she leaves in the day (aside from the Compromise), but I'll venture a guess. At some point, Subere (her sis) gave her a Secret that allowed her to bring darkness to the entire surface world. This really helped out the poor trollish refugees that nasty old Yelmy threw out when he maliciously invaded Hell (no pro-troll bias here, nope). Being a kind sort (unlike certain Sun Gods) she shares this secret with anyone who cares to worship her, human, troll or whatever. Semi-logical, since Subere holds the Element but Xentha has a Mastery rune.

Alternatively, considering Xentha's pretty basic cult belief, she could just be the Mega Economy Sized version of the Shadows of Shadows Dance, so darn big she fills the entire lozenge.
