I suspect it's just the opposite. I buyed the Pavis box in 83 and was
stupid enough to let it go in my careless youth days. I would have buyed
RoC (which I did) even if I still had the Pavis box. And most people that
want to play in the Pavis and Rubble area, want to know that what they are
developing is consistent with it. So, if they have a copy, they know it is.
When the background material comes out they will most likely buy it. After
all, they are already investing on it, and they're wayting for it. What
they may not buy is something about Pamaltela: they are not playing in
Pamaltela, they are playing in Prax, and don't want to change.

Let me tell you what I would ratter do: make a copy of that old material,
and save the $100 to buy the "real" thing when it comes out from Issaries
Inc. by $20, instead of giving away $80 to an intermediary. I mean, those
extra $80 are not going to be used to finance what I want: new Glorantha
materials. (Not that I'm doing this BTW.)

Now, I will tell you what I think will happen: if Issaries Inc. is
successful (I realy hope so) and attracts a lot of new people to Glorantha,
these people will acknowledge the existance of those mythical old boxes of
RQ2 and RQ3 materials. The auction prices will rocket and the photocopies
will continue to be very andy. Who is going to loose on this case? Issaries
Inc., of course. Who is gaining? The people that owns the old stuff.
Now, let me ask a couple of questions?
1. How can it be that someone that owns an RQ2 book (I'm talking based on
my own experience) and uses it intensely is able to keep it well preserved?
I see only a possibility: phot...
2. Suppose someone owns Pavis and wants to make $100, BUT doesn't want to
loose the content. What do you think such a person would do before selling
the box? Phot... I realy think that the reason why people sell old
Glorantha materials is BECAUSE of the existance of the photocopy machine.
(I'm just gessing, I don't know of any real example to proove it.)
What should Chaosium do? IMHO Chaosium should make its policy to allow the photocopy of RQ2 materials FOR PERSONAL USE ONLY until Issaries Inc. starts publishing new materials (RQ3 books are another mather because they involve AH). No cost for Chaosium. No need to make new editions of the old materials. And making momentum to edit new materials based on the old settings.
