I understand and sympathise with what you're saying. There is a problem, however, that we have to address (all of us together - new blood and old). For the sake of brevity I shall refer to the old blood as 'you' (plural), and the new blood as 'we'.

I believe you love Glorantha because of certain principles which it embodies. I believe you are worried that we will try to move Glorantha away from those principles (more like D&D, say), which is why you want to protect it.

I think that some of the Gloranthan principles are great. Some I don't understand, some I'm not sure I like. I believe we can all discuss and maybe change those principles in such a way so that you will still be happy, maybe even happier, and so will we.

My problem on several occasions has been how to address these things without being "threatening". It's tricky, but I do feel that we need to be heard. The fact that "we" exist at all is a good sign for Glorantha and Issaries.

(I have a lot of sympathy with what Laurent Labrot has been saying, BTW). The key thing for us all now is openness. I would like to see some of these discussions go through, and see whether the conclusions we get to are ones that you're happy with. If they are then after a while you'll stop seeing Glorantha as vulnerable.

Take the +1 Sword thread for example. I reckon we ended up with the following:

"With so much magic occuring naturally in Gorantha, and by far forming the bulk of the more common magic items, manufactured magic will always be exotic and unique (though anything is possible)."

Do you reckon I've got that pretty much right?

It certainly isn't D&D and never will be. I feel an awful lot clearer about it now - so I think it was an important discussion for us to have.

The issue with OOP stuff will be side-stepped by Issaries, wisely, by publishing stuff about new geographical areas. They can then make sure that we don't feel that we're missing critical information about our campaign location. Not all of us mind this, but quite a lot of us do.

Other issues will follow. I'm quite bothered by this whole HeroQuest idea, for example, and what seems to be an attempt to make the game more adult. I don't fully understand what HeroQuests are all about yet - I'll post something up when I do.
