Ok kiddies. While everyone else has fun runing off to Convulsions, the rest of you get to stay here and take a quiz. There are only two questions, and they concern the section below describing a heroquest.

A bit ago, Jeff posted about a heroquest we ran in his TODP II campaign, (which could be titled "The Varmandi Self-Destruct").

In a desperate attempt to find the source of the clan's strife, Kerad and his buddies performed the Heortling initiation rite again, and travelled to the end of the world to find the Second Son, as Heort did. (The Second Son is a son of Vingkot, a grandson of Orlanth. Apparently, he hangs out in his birthday suit at the end of the world, bestowing advice to young Orlanthi who seek him out. His advice is "keep fighting chaos - look inside yourself to find the strength to never give up - and you can save the world). Heort took this advice, went on to star in the Unity Battle, and the rest is history.

Upon hearing these inspiring words, Kerad asked Second Son: "What is the source of the Varmandi's troubles?" Second Son pointed into the mist, and Kerad followed.

He soon came across a young woman in red, peacefully sitting on a rock & meditating. There was grey mist swirling all around, and the stars were falling from the sky. The far-off sounds of fighting could be heard. The woman invited him to sit with her, and contemplate the world. But Kerad told her that he had to save the world.

"Don't be afraid", she said. "The world will begin anew. This is only a phase of the great cycle. Look at the deeper mysteries, and you will no longer fear change!"

But Kerad shouted: "No! You don't understand! We must STOP this! This happened before and it was no good. We must fight to keep the world the same!" And because it was the only thing he could do, he killed her with a thunderbolt.

On his way back, the world began to go right again. As Heort had done, Kerad separated the living from the dead, he named the plants and animals, he found law amid chaos. Kerad returned successfully from his quest, sure in the knowledge that the Red Moon was the source of his clan's strife, and a threat to the whole world.

  1. What is surprising about this quest, given traditional concepts about Orlanthi vs Pelorians?

2). Who won?

Pam
