And they do this because they have been isolated during the Ban and haven't had a decent chance to test their new warfare techniques against anybody else yet - the Greenleaf rebellion, for example, was over before serious hostilities occured.

Umm. He was talking about village headmen who were not knights and didn't even have warhorses IIRC.
