Moonboats

Herve asks interesting questions, and I'll give my opinions:

> Do clouds or anything masking the Red Moon have an effects on moonbeams?

Definitely. Take plenty of "Cloud Clear" spells if you're in a hurry. You can make some progress if the moon is blocked, I'd suppose, but not a lot. At cruising altitudes, there aren't many other things likely to block the moonbeams. And you won't come crashing to the ground all of a sudden or anything if they are blocked (well, that's what it says on the in-flight safety procedures card).

> Many clouds make a Storm after all.

They certainly do. And those delicately-suspended moonboats are also *very* vulnerable to high winds, thunderbolts, lightning strikes, and the like. Best to steer well clear of turbulent regions like Dragon Pass. (Yes, it's a pun!)

> Would the Glowline change something ?

Absolutely! Within the Glowline, Moonboats can cruise around as if it's Full Moon all the time. It's almost like changing from sailing vessels (dependent on the waxing and waning moonlight) to powered craft. Also within the Glowline, the weather is much milder (through geography) and better managed (thanks to Kalikos, Molanni, and the like), and there are fewer uproarious storm-worshipping barbarian rebels trying to bring down these valuable craft.

This is why Arrolian moonboat pilots have the edge: they get to sail under what for the Imperial Lunars are *unimaginably* bad conditions, all the time. Almost all Imperial moonboat pilots have never ventured beyond the Glowline: they aren't used to working with the moonlight at less than its Full strength.

And nobody has ever risked a moonboat in a military operation against opponents with weather-control magics. (Save it for the Hero Wars!).

I love Moonboats, me!
