MOB

What a suprise!

>"to me the Machiavellian intrigue in the chambers of the palace is less
>interesting to me than the open war it brings", "violence is a must...", "I
>just happen to like the VIOLENCE bits the most", etc. I agree with David
>Cake's comments:

>> Its also easy to see where Martin comes from - he wants to

I disagree. I see the magical succession as being vital. I see the HQing as being central to the whole issue. I also see HQ in the Empire as being a vibrant force, central to any long term game set there.

>> get without ado to what he wants from a succession crisis -

??? Where on earth do you get that idea? You are plainly supposing that I view the military sphere as distinct from the magical one. Far from it. The military and magical spheres are linked utterly. One cannot think army without thinking magic. One cannot think battle without thinking heroquest and ritual. In Glorantha these things are utterly interlinked. The hero in the Empire will not just be on the battlefielf but will be looking for weapons and allies, for ways of cutting out the enemy power etc on the GOD PLANE. What was the Empire killing of the Pharaoh other than a decapitation strike?

It was a strategic move. The Sky Burn and Moon Burns were strategic strikes.

The Carmanian March was an oeprational magical attack.

The use of magic at 4 arrows was an operational deployment of their powers, same with Nights of Horror. Aside from this, do you really think that all the wars that will wrack the Empire will be decided on the battlefield? Not in my Glorantha, and hopefully not in yours.

>> Be careful, Martin, that your world is the same world as the one
>> all the Lunars see, not just limited to one view of it...

A very strange comment. What exactly does this mean?

>> The Lunar empire is full of contradictory forces, which is all part
>> of the fun, and I want to see it kept that way.

Er yes? And? What is new in this? By saying this, I presume you mean I am unaware of this or against it? Far from it. I am totally encouraging a concept of contradictory forces in SGU. In fact several times in the debate I discussed the centrifugal forces that the Empire exists under. These are internal as well as external.
