Illumination and mysticism

Illumination (from what I've heard Greg say) is the mystical insight without any means of refutation. You know that everything's wrong or is an illusion but you don't have any ability to find out the truth. It is a curse rather than a mystical path.

Your old magic does not change and you can continue to improve them. You do have the ability to acquire new and exotic magics from others and use them without penalty - although I feel that this is a learned method and not one intrinsic to illumination.

It depends on what the spell actually is. If it was an attack, then your instincts are right. I should point out that Draconism is not illumination so what I said above doesn't apply to Draconic magicians.
