Well, that's where the lay-flat binding was supposed to come in, as well as the box which should have allowed any needed charts to be duplicated in full. Frankly, anyone actually going to play the game is likely to be getting the box, and thus it 'could' have been stuffed with goodies for the core audience. Since most (oh, say 90%) of people who buy RPGs don't actually play them the smaller size doesn't affect them. Obviously, I thought there should have been more/better layout and handouts provided in the box but I don't get to make those decisions.

Sure, but it's not like marketing doesn't want good presentation too. I think presentation and marketing are completely linked. Putting the books in a box is as much a Sales issue as a Marketing one.
