Eurmal is neither theistic nor animistic nor sorcerous. He seems to partake of all three magic systems with his powers wobbling back and forth among the Three Otherworlds in erratic cycles and switchbacks. [...] Trickers magic does not work like affinities, grimoires or spirits but more like feats, spells and talents (although an ability can act as any of these at different times). [Note: HeroWars terminology - PHM] Storm Tribe p66 The unity [the God Learners] sought is believed [by modern gloranthans] to be a cruel illusion fostered by the Jester King. Genertela: Glorantha Book p25.
I'm even more convinced. The chief difference is that the Trickster does what he must whereas the God Learner has choice in his transformations. The cost of the God Learner's control over his transformations is that he cannot change magics as quickly or easily as an unbonded Trickster.
This also gives an insight about the motivations of Hofhadalos the Nonwise in building the Temple of United Eurmal in Slontos.
