I believe it actually was run at Rise of Ralios -- I think some details are on my web site.
I'm no LARP expert, but heroquests appear to be very GM-intensive. You are essentially taking a GM out of circulation for the duration of the quest. Or looked at another way, reducing the number of people the GM can deal with for that duration.
As a player, they can be a nice break. But for a player who really prefers scenery-chewing and interacting with lots of people, you're out of circulation for the duration of the quest.
