That's easy. Most Orlanthi don't own much personal property. What they do own will be offset by debts (favours, loans and so forth). I may own 3 cows but i also owe favours to my Priest, my uncle, my wife's uncle etc. ...

Given that an average clan has about as many cows as people that seems to make sense.
