Say a Destori Devotee works up an ^5 to close combat with his Swordhelp feat.
It seems a bit much for that same ^5 to be effective when, during the same contest, he's attacked by a passion spirit.
This is the heart of the question: How many ways is it reasonable to apply the same edge? It doesn't "feel right" for the swordhelp to be as effective on the passion spirit as it is on the Dara Happan centurion.
Of course, we could say that the answer is in the question--the swordhelp was originally supposed to be an ^5 to _close combat_, not spirit combat.
