And the same goes for A levels (UK 16-18 education, non-compulsory). I did three sciences plus maths: not exactly general knowledge. I gather France leaves it a lot later to specialise, and judging by the exchange students we had at college, so does the USA?

(Come to think of it, we'd started specialisation, dropping History in favour of Physics, back at 13).

That isn't General history, that's American history! (And Modern, at that.) Major minuses for your Medieval scholar.
