Only the magical (or spiritual) returns... presumably the church leadership has other very good reasons to centralize.
It's also worth noting that people don't minimax for the things that games measure. The sense of community and of belonging to a really big organization may greatly appeal to Westerners, but aren't reflected in game terms (and no, this is not Member of [congregation]).
