It would be a case of regaining morale, confidence or whatever you want to call it - especially given a transfer. Working out the exact state does require taking the relative values, as well as the absolute values into account.

That isn't a problem at all. Neither is switching abilities in itself. Even the specific switch here could be natural - if for instance the contest was close to a stalemate with both sides losing APs at a roughly equal rate.
