Ever read the Harry Potter books, with Nearly Headless Nick?

But even without going that far, it's a feat. It does stuff. A marginal victory might mean that the target leaped out of the way but landed badly, bruising his ribs (Hurt). A minor victory might mean that the target blocked with his shield, but this was cut through and his arm is wrenched (Impaired). A major victory might mean that the target suffered a deep wound to his collarbone (Injured).

I think there are very few magical abilities that don't work like this (Flying is one).
