I use poker chips as a way to track skills and augments that are contributing to a contest. This is useful in two ways - firstly it means that people are relieved of keeping a running tally of their augments, which frees them up mentally to focus upon coming up with nifty bits of narrative business to account for the various abilities that are being brought into play; secondly having something tangible to hand over to the players when they've contributed their bit of narrative business seems to emphasise the 'reward' aspect of the augment.

This plays out as a back-and-forth dialogue (frequently with other players chipping in suggestions and/or queries) for a while and then a quick 'count up the pennies' task before rolling off and narrating the rolled outcome.

Poker chips are also handy for tracking APs in an extended contest. Again the moving of tangible chips around the table helps to make the shifting fortunes of the contest more real somehow.

Luke
