He doesn't, though: he just wins _marginally_, more often. It's an oddity, but not a horrendous one.

Doubtless this is very old turf by now (if so, apologies for coming in midway) but the most obvious 'design decision' at work here is whether to have a high is good convention (like Pendragon), or a low is good convention (like Hero wars). You get a certain amount of strangenesses either way. But until someone designs dice with an arbitrary number of faces... (cue Orlanth, rolling a D147).
