Great example. I think the "he tried so hard it killed him" is pretty
common - doing something superhuman at the cost of one's life. Many
examples. A plain old marathon won't kill you, but maybe the terrain,
weather, or his speed did him in. Holding up a collapsing mine is a
another folk tale example. Almost like cashing in a "my life" chip to
really push it.
