You could use the ceremony in the Rising Dark (HW:NB) as a model -- so the contest will probably be Spirit Combat (or whatever) vs Might, but there are things for the other player characters to do, research, gather, etc. "X compels you" might give some idea of the bid, with higher bids meaning you've called on more esoteric or chancy gods/spirits/whatever (keep track; the god may call back some day...).
There are some Hong Kong movies (Chinese Ghost Stiry III comes to mind) where fights between demons and monks/sorcerers consist of various spells/kung fu moves accompanied by "statements of belief":
Good: Heaven and Earth Are Infinite!
Bad: Evil Is Everywhere!
and so on. Coming up with good lines might "pep up" the contest.
