I'm personally very sympathetic to Peter's GD suggestion that tin is the metal of the High Sky, Lightning, and (I'd personally add) Star Powers.
Looking at the cover of ST, one can't fail to notice that the Vingan bears a coronet of *blue* metal, and has a spear blazing with *blue* fire.
I believe that these two magic items are made of Zinc, and that this metal has the power to channel High Fire/Lightning energies.
I think that Lightning Javelins must have
zinc spear heads, for instance, and that zinc,
unlike other metals, hardens instead of softening
when subjected to heat, so that HQ characters
can Augment the weapons bonuses of zinc
weapons by filling them with High Fire or
Lightning magics.
Zinc, with its natural powers
is of course the metal of choice for
making roofs pleasurable to heat-loving
