I was just considering starting such a list myself. Moving an interesting discussion to the GD usually means that it dies. I'm not sure why: maybe because having the thing in daily digest format rather than individual messages is such a pain.

No. Those who want it can use it, those who don't, don't have to. Same as the Glorantha3D list (which, come to think of it, we should probably advertise again, given as it's a place for techy "how to draw maps"-type discussion), and all the other ones.

Well, this is just me. But when the GD comes in, I have to page down and down and down through screeds of stuff in which I have no personal interest to find the "good bits". (No doubt other people are scrolling past different things, but we all find some bits of more interest than others). The snappy one-liners probably get overlooked because of this. If it was individual messages, I would just note the subject and hit delete.

Then if I want to save something for future reference, it's hassle.

If I want to reply, I have to cut out those screeds of stuff that isn't the specific message I'm after before I can get down to normal snipping. I have to find the original subject title and put it back in, and if I get it slightly wrong, threading won't work in the archives (it probably won't work anyway).

And if a question comes in, and I know the answer, I'll answer it, and have to wait a day to see my answer appear. So five or six of us all answer, crossing each others posts, because there's a day's delay put into what should take seconds.

I gather that Graham sees at least some of this as an *advantage*? Tastes differ.
